As it comes to an end...

As the bits program come to an end, we are all focused on our final project. But i remember the first day when i made all the kids in my group draw a map. A map telling me where there super markets was located; where their corner stores were located. I asked them to tell me how far these places were from their houses and also the quality of food that these places provided. They also drew places like McDonald's other franchises. Since we were all about going green, in honor of the whole Greenworks team, Jeremy and Ivy, i also had the Interns write ways in which we could all save energy and also to mark the places in their neighborhood that had trash. We then talked about ways to improve all these situations.
It was funny when all gave me a look that said"why are we doing this" . I simply said it will all make sense as we complete our final project for bits.So now that we are almost done our project i will have them all reflect on this activity.
Just to show an example of what the first project should be. I did an example for them.
Read more about their maps on their blogs----->

Week 1

During the first week of the bITS program students were introduced to their project. Our project is Greenworks is based off of Mayor Nutter's plan to make Philadelphia Green. Target 1 is simply a subcategory of the Entire Greenworks group, we also have two other groups that will be focusing on Energy saving methods and also another group that will be focusing on ways to reduce waste, be sure to check out their blogs as well!
This week went very smoothly. Everyone seems up to the task and ready to go. I introduced everyone to blogger and they all had no trouble navigating around it. I think the project will be great when it all comes together.
We also made maps of our neighborhoods to compare where food is located in relations to our homes. I did this exercise to get everyone thinking about the project and to get an idea of what it is they really had to do. This created discussions about what is available around Temple.
Also available on the page are links to blogs of each individual that is participating in Greenworks Target 1.
